Stevie Wonder will bring his wildly popular Songs in the Key of Life tour to Hyde Park this summer – the only UK date of a tour that has been extended to an 18-month-long run in the US.
Wonder will be performing on July 10 as part of the Barclaycard British Summer Time festival, and will perform his 1976 album in its entirety along with other classic hits from his back catalogue.
Songs in the Key of Life was released on Motown Records and cemented Wonder's position as an artist by winning his fourth Grammy Album of the Year in 1977 (after winning one a piece for previous albums Talking Book, Innervisions and Fullfillingness' First Finale). Including the songs Sir Duke, Isn't She Lovely and I Wish, fellow musicians such as Elton John, Prince, Pharrell and Michael Jackson have cited Songs in the Key of Life as an influence.
In 2005, Kanye West set the album as a bar for him to beat with his debut, College Dropout: "I’m not trying to compete with what’s out there now. I’m really trying to compete with Innervisions and Songs In The Key of Life. It sounds musically blasphemous to say something like that, but why not set that as your bar?"
In previous shows on the tour, Wonder's set has lasted up to four hours long, with performances of Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours), Part-Time Lover, For Once in My Life and Higher Ground.
